Dental Hygienist in Coventry

Protect your oral health and enjoy that dentist clean feeling with our bespoke dental hygienist cleanings. A professional scale and polish will clean those hard to reach areas and lift surface stains.

Regular visits to the dental hygienist will help to protect your oral health, keep your breath fresh and could even leave you with a brighter smile.

Our dental hygiene team is here to help make your journey to better oral health simple and stress-free. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to ask questions about how to care for your teeth in addition to exploring potential treatment options that will enable you to smile with confidence. We recommend visiting the dental hygienist every 6-12 months to protect your teeth and gums.

What to expect during your dental hygiene visit

Every dental hygienist visit is different because the treatment plan will be unique to your needs. It typically starts with a discussion about your oral health concerns and a review of how you care for your teeth at home. Next, we will inspect your teeth and gums looking for signs of disease and decay. And finally, we will professionally clean your teeth using modern techniques. This can include manual tools to remove plaque and tartar build up, or air polishing to gently lift and flush away bacteria and surface stains.

Common gum problems

Visits to the dental hygienist can protect your teeth and gums against the following common issues.

Bad Breath

The most common reason to visit the dental hygienist is to tackle bad breath. This can be the result of lifestyle choices such as smoking, or incorrect brushing technique. It can also be a sign of a more serious underlying issue, so it's important to get it checked.

Tooth Decay

Decay occurs when bacteria builds up on the tooth surface and eats away at the protective layer, leaving the soft pulp below exposed. This can lead to a range of painful conditions that could require fillings, root canal treatment or even extraction.

Cavities

A cavity occurs when tooth decay progresses to the portion of tooth below the enamel. When left untreated, infection can spread throughout the tooth root and even infect the jaw bone. Regular hygienist cleanings will help to remove bacteria that leads to decay.

Periodontitis

When bacteria is allowed to build up on the gum line, this can lead to inflamed and painful gums. If left untreated, the gums may recede and this can lead to tooth loss. Regular hygienist cleanings help to protect against periodontal disease.

Abscesses

An abscess occurs when the tip of the root becomes infected and a small sack of pus develops. This can be an incredibly painful condition that leads to swelling and intense pain in the cheek, jaw and neck. If left untreated, it can be dangerous.

Gingivitis

This mild form of gum disease is often the first sign that something is amiss. It causes redness, soreness and inflammation in your gums. It can also cause your gums to bleed when you brush your teeth. Professional cleanings will help to manage the problem.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Have a question about your dental treatment? We've answered the most common questions below.

No, a dental hygiene appointment should not hurt. However, if you have sensitive teeth or gums, you may experience some discomfort during the cleaning process. Your dentist or hygienist will work carefully and gently to minimise any discomfort.

Ideally, you should see a dental hygienist every six months. This will help keep your teeth and gums healthy and free of plaque and tartar buildup. If you have a history of dental problems, you may need to see the dental hygienist more often.

Even though I had saved my appointment details on my calendar, I still received a reminder a day before the appointment. I like this. The dentist was always quick to explain what she was doing and seeing, profer multiple solutions and allay my fears and concerns about me grinding my teeth during my sleep. On a whole, very good service👍🏾

Best experience I’ve ever had of a dentist, I put off going for years out of severe anxiety, and was further put off by a terrible experience at Bupa Clinic in Coventry just a week before, however Dr Rakesh put me at ease straight away and understood my nerves. I went back for my filling just a week later and I am absolutely terrified of needles but again Dr Rakesh understood and applied numbing gel and I didn’t even feel the needle go in!! The procedure went very well and it was a deep cavity yet I didn’t feel any pain after the anaesthesia went away. The reception even called me the day after to make sure I was okay which I thought was so kindHighly highly recommend this practice, especially if you’re someone as nervous as I and I’ve recommended this place to everyone. Thank you for helping me finally overcome my dental fearSophia
